Our Pedagogy Model

Curriculum

The curriculum at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School is personalised to the needs of our pupils and the context of our school. It goes beyond the National Curriculum and takes into account the KS3 curriculum aims and the skills needed beyond primary school. Embedding knowledge and understanding in pupil’s long-term memory is essential. We ensure that pupils are given the opportunity to contextualise their learning and make connections to their previous learning.

Subject Knowledge

A high level of subject knowledge is at the heart of our pedagogical approach. As a school there is also a focus on specific high-level vocabulary, ensuring that lessons are clearly planned and sequenced to maximise the learning, as well as providing opportunities to revisit key concepts and skills. Our expertly sequenced lessons and higher-level questioning embeds prior learning, helps to make connections and ensures that learning is retained.

Assessment

Through coaching and on-going professional development, teachers are constantly checking for understanding of both new and prior learning. They also assess knowledge to ascertain if concepts have been understood and embedded. This allows teachers to respond quickly to any misconceptions that may arise.

Adaptive Teaching

At Our Lady of Lourdes, we are highly ambitious and aspirational for all pupils to achieve. We have designed a school curriculum that builds on previous learning and goes beyond the National Curriculum. Teachers will adapt their teaching to accommodate different learning styles, as well as to further challenge pupils.
